Who Am I?
I’m Harvey Meale, a 26-year-old Aussie fitness enthusiast and writer currently living in Thailand. I have recently embarked on a journey to become the world’s foremost expert on the subject of fasting. Over the next few years, I will be running a series of lengthy and at times torturous experiments on my own body to bring to you the most detailed and original case studies on every fasting protocol you can imagine. My goal is for FastingOracle to become the ultimate resource for people of all levels to come to learn about the subject of fasting.
How I Discovered Fasting
I ended up going deeeeep down the rabbit hole of fasting a few years ago after going through a ‘bulking’ phase which had left me looking a little more fluffy than I wanted. I learnt about the incredible efficiency of different intermittent fasting protocols and how they were the ultimate method for losing body fat.
But it wasn’t until I discovered the wild world of prolonged fasting that I started to realise the true power of fasting. I discovered that fasting for extended periods of time would not only yield epic fat loss results, but that it was the best way for the body to heal itself by exorcising toxins, addictions, and in some cases diseases.
I began learning as much as I could. I read every book, watched every video, and quickly dove into the deep end with a 7 day water fast. The experience was so profoundly transformational that I started regularly doing extended fasts like these. As I became more advanced I would embark on tougher missions like several 5 day hard dry fasts – that’s where you don’t eat or drink or make any physical contact with water. That’s right, I didn’t shower or wash my hands or even brush my teeth for 5 days straight!
When I tell people this story they think I’m pulling their leg. Most people don’t realise that humans can even survive without water for 5 days. They accuse me of being crazy and ask, “isn’t that, uhh, dangerous?”
The reality is there’s a pretty massive difference between trudging through the desert in the scorching heat with no water for days on end and, on the other hand, relaxing at home in the air conditioning, with no water for days on end. In the former example, you’re expending massive amounts of energy and becoming dangerously dehydrated very quickly. In the latter case, your body is able to adapt to and get ahead of the physiological changes happening much more efficiently.
The truth is most people don’t understand anything about the biological processes that are going on in your body when doing something like this. And sadly, they are completely unaware of the incredible healing and weight loss effects that can have a major impact on your life in such a short amount of time.
With a bit of extra time on my hands, I decided to create FastingOracle during lockdown in August of 2021 as a resource for sharing the gospel of all things fasting. I wanted to create the ultimate resource for not only beginners but also those more experienced fasters.
So much of the information relating to fasting on the web is inaccurate, incomplete, or non-existent and I knew I’d be able to offer way better educational content from my sheer experience and wealth of original research on the subject.
Over the next few years, I will be embarking on a series of unique, exciting, and challenging fasting protocols so that I can document my experiences and bring to you those golden nuggets of wisdom so you can be better prepared to integrate fasting into your lifestyle. Throughout this process, I will be developing the most detailed and original research on fasting that has ever been done and sharing with you my learnings and insights along the way.
